Bob Dylan is a major cultural figure whose fame and influence extends far behind the realm of popular music.  With a recording career that stretches back over half a century, he has influenced countless musicians, and his thoughtful lyrics, which achieve a depth unusual among rock performers, remain widely quoted and admired.  Now in his 70s, Bob Dylan has collected a variety of awards that attest to his eminence:  an Academy Award (for his song “Things Have Changed,” 2001), a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), a Pulitzer Prize (2008) and a Presidential Medal of Freedom (2012).  He has even been formally nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Dylan has indeed come a long way from his childhood as a rock ‘n’ roll fan growing up in Hibbing, Minnesota.  In college he acquired a love for America’s folk music tradition, and he dropped out of school to join the vibrant Greenwich Village scene.  His first album, Bob Dylan (1962), announced the arrival of an exciting new talent.  His subsequent ‘60s albums turned him into one of the top musical performers of that decade, and his boldness in continually diversifying his act—he famously “went electric” with 1965’s Bringing It All Back Home, and ventured into country music in Nashville Skyline (1969)—made him a fascinatingly dynamic figure.

In the 1970s and ‘80s, Dylan receded from the spotlight somewhat as his live shows became less frequent, and his musical experimentation, which included a brief and much-maligned gospel phase, sometimes failed to capture the public’s ear.  Even so, he had his share of successes in this period, including the hit single “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” (1973) and the critically acclaimed albums Blood on the Tracks (1975) and Oh Mercy (1989).

Dylan’s 1997 album Time Out of Mind proved a comeback of sorts for this superstar, netting him three Grammy Awards.  Its follow-up, Love and Theft (2001), was another hit, and he became a best-selling author with the release of his memoirs, Chronicles: Volume One (2004)

Dylan continues to record and perform.  To get your Bob Dylan tickets, just search the calendar for the date you’d like to attend.
