02/02/2017 - Okay, seriously? This 18 year old artist, YES, artist! I sometimes choke using the word "artist", but Shaun Mendes in the real deal. People forget that popular music, the music of our time, is in fact folk music, which represents where our society is and where its headed. In earlier times, take Mozart for example, and no I'm not comparing Mendes to Mozart, I’m simply comparing public appearances. In Mozart's time, a piano type instrument would be hauled into a public square, the additional required musicians would assemble and the music would bathe the ears of anyone in listening range as crowds grew bigger and bigger. Well, that's exactly what happens wherever Shawn arrives with his guitar, instead of a piano, although he's turning out to be quite the pianist. Shawn is dedicated to his fans creating impromptu situations every chance he gets. His guitar seems to appear from out of nowhere.
He loves his fans and he loves kissing them. He makes no distinction between his female and male fans, except for the kiss. He has been seen laying a wet one on girls in airports, organized "Meet and Greets" and crowds of fans. Basically when and wherever he gets the chance he proves his dedication to his fans. He’s even been seen kissing a dog, although he's allergic to them.
Its hard to put a number on Shawn's fan base, however we know its in the millions with about 10% being young men. That famous 10% number has raised some eyebrows. When singing or acting in a video he's all man, well, a young man; for a 16, 17 & now 18 year old and turning 19 on August 8, 2017. There's been some speculation as to his dating and his private life, which has really disappointed him. He finally decided that all the suggestive comments were ridiculous and decided to set the record straight! He simply used social media to let the world know that he's not gay. Still there's that 10%. And ya know what, he doesn't care. For him its all about the music, just as it should be. Its not easy being at the top of the totem pole as the media boasts that Mendes is the biggest break out entertainer since Just Bieber.
Hopefully we won't see this sensible entertainer fall into a pop culture wasteland. So far he has stuck to a refined and stylized expression of his personally; resulting in the ability to craft songs with respectable lyrics. As it is now, there aren't any uncensored charts. This means we can let our children watch and download freely with no more explaining than the meaning of one very interesting tattoo on his right forearm. His tatt appears to be a guitar, but there's more to it than meets the eye. In interviews, Shawn is delighted to explain the original work of this pop culture art form which has roots in civilizations 3000 years B.C. The tatt represents the cityscape of Toronto, Canada, near his home. There’s an image of a recorded wavelength down the center of the inked guitar shaped tatt, a wavelength image that was created by a recording of his family; Father, Mother and sister saying: I love you. This appears to be the ripple of water that reflects the other half of the curved shape of his primary instrument, the guitar. Okay, his second instrument, his voice being the first, which we all know is remarkable. In dreaming up this tattoo Shawn has also proven himself to be an original artistic designer; creating a truly unique tattoo, one which is being emulated and branded through replication on the body parts of fans around the world. Okay fans, that's a little bit obsessive. Maybe watch some of his online vids and see if you can cook up a meal with him from his apartment kitchen. He thought his rice looked unappetizing. I wonder how many girls out there would enter a contest for an opportunity to eat undercooked or overcooked rice with our golden boy?
Here's the skinny: Mendes was a VINE discovery at age 16. VINE is an entertainment network where videos and personalities get really big. Eh, if worked for him... By the time Shawn was 17 he was recording professionally. Now, 18 years of age, he has broken all the records with off the chart ratings, critic's accolades and numerous awards.
